Employee Wellness

Employee wellnessFunded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) since 2011, FACT has been implementing the Employee Wellness Programme in Manicaland and Mashonaland West Provinces. The title of the programme is ”Strengthening HIV prevention among employees in Manicaland & Mashonaland West Provinces.” The goal of the programme is to see employees of selected organisations/companies in project intervention areas in Manicaland and Mashonaland West Provinces adopting preventive behaviours including the use of relevant health services. The specific objectives of the programme are to:

  • Encourage access to and utilisation of Integrated Sexual Reproductive Health and other health related services by employees at the workplaces
  • Promote dissemination of information on prevention, treatment and management of communicable and non communicable diseases.

The employee wellness programme is being implemented inChimanimani, Chipinge, Nyanga, Chinhoyi and Kariba districts targeting employees from the following companies:

  • Tanganda Tea Company
  • The Wattle Company
  • Southdown Holdings
  • Border Timbers Limited
  • Pan African Mines
  • Padenga Holdings
  • Lake Harvest

To date, a total of 21 914 employees from the seven companies have been exposed to several employee wellness sessions which cover current information on HIV prevention; management and treatment of diseases such as tuberculosis, hypertension and malaria and management of non communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes. 7 289 employees were reached with HIV Testing and Counselling Services through mobile clinics and 2 187 employees accessed other health related services including tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections screening and treatment, voluntary medical male circumcision, cervical cancer screening, family planning and malaria treatment.

Since the inception of the programme two crucial achievements have been noted namely:

  • Strong management buy-in for the employee wellness programme resulting in positive health seeking behaviour among employees on Sexual Reproductive Health, communicable and non communicable diseases.
  • Positive commitment by companies through reviewing and adoption of HIV and Wellness Policies
